Men in Media test -- 3 tracks: Dominance, Questioning, Relational
The Men in Media (MIM) test has a Deep Dive version with three scoring tracks. Together, these tracks map the full terrain of manhood on screen — the status quo model that confines and harms; a model for the struggle to break free from dominance norms; and a relational model that connects, cares, and collaborates.
Dominance manhood (stoic, hyper-masculine, tough guy)
This track assesses the degree to which a film upholds dominance manhood — a model for manhood rooted in control, emotional restriction, and hierarchical power.
Questioning dominance manhood (suffers due to not being ‘manly’ enough; rejects norms)
This track assesses the degree to which a film depicts leading or supporting male characters grappling with, destabilizing, or resisting dominance-based expectations of manhood.
Relational manhood (expressive, collaborative, and authentic)
This track assesses the degree to which a film depicts male characters practicing relational, emotionally fluent forms of manhood.
