Set after the events of Borderlands 3, the story continues the franchise’s satirically violent focus on rebellion, treasure hunting, and unlikely alliances. New ‘Vault Hunters’ confront powerful enemies while navigating a chaotic galaxy shaped by corporate exploitation and competing factions. Male characters often perform versions of the franchise’s signature over-the-top masculinity, mixing violence, sarcasm, and self-confidence. However, the narrative continues to demonstrate the centrality of teamwork and mutual support. Narrative bonds between companions often matter as much as battlefield victories. Although the series generally rewards violence and physical strength, its heroes succeed through cooperation rather than pure domination. Notably, playable character Amon’s backstory centers on surviving the destruction of his cult and grappling with the emotional consequences.
