As sequel to 2018’s God of War, Ragnarök expands on the previous game’s themes by emphasizing communication, trust, and the rejection of destructive destinies. Kratos becomes increasingly reflective and emotionally articulate while nurturing his son Atreus’ independence. Multiple male characters wrestle with expectations related to power, strength, and violence. The story repeatedly suggests that compassion and cooperation are stronger than domination. Caregiving, mentoring, and emotional honesty are central themes. Ragnarök therefore represents one of the clearest examples of a major blockbuster narrative that, while violent and ostensibly hypermasculine, also actively rejects traditional masculine norms.
